The lemon-flavored waffle cookies were crispy with a rich, buttery flavor accented with the taste of lemon zest (which is to say it was lemony but not tart or tangy).
The almond butter thins offered a slightly denser, harder crispiness versus the waffle cookies to go with a caramelized flavor. They’re also buttery but less so than the waffle cookies. The cookie themselves are not almond-flavored but are embedded here and there with sliced almonds. The almonds added a bit of nutty flavor and smoother, more delicate texture.
The almond butter thins with strawberry bits were much lighter in color than the regular ones but still tasted the same except for the little strawberry bits, which added a chewy texture to go with a light strawberry flavor.
Overall, Trader Joe’s Belgian Cookie Assortment are especially enjoyable if you like European-style crispy cookies along the lines of Pepperidge Farm’s Distinctive line. While they could use a little more variety in the selection, the fruity flavors go well with the warmer months. You might be disappointed if you were hoping for a stronger fruit flavor though.
