PepsiCo’s Rockstar Punched Strawberry Aguas Frescas is an energy drink made with strawberry juice and natural sweeteners, like agave syrup and stevia leaf extract.
The Rockstar Punched Strawberry Aguas Frescas has a fruity aroma that’s mixed with the somewhat tangy smell that seems ubiquitous to energy drinks (from the taurine, maybe?). It has a fairly light level of carbonation.
Taste-wise, the Rockstar Punched Strawberry Aguas Frescas is lightly sweet with some tart notes from the strawberry juice and energy drink additives. It tastes very much like a typical energy drink on the end note but toned down. There is a slight hint of bitterness, possibly due to the stevia, which I’ve found to taste strangely similar to artificial sweeteners in higher concentrations despite being a plant extract.
The drink does contain 160mg of caffeine in the entire 16-fl-oz can, which is lower than typical for the Rockstar Punched line (240mg of caffeine per 16-fl-oz can) and equivalent to the Rockstar Original line’s caffeine content. That being said, it’s more than enough for a powerful hit of alertness and potential jitters if you consume the entire can.
Overall, I found the Rockstar Punched Strawberry Aguas Frescas fairly refreshing and easy to drink as far as energy drinks go. I appreciated that it wasn’t overwhelmingly sweet, offered a pleasantly tart strawberry juice flavor, and didn’t taste strongly of artificial sweeteners.
